She began playing the cello at the age of 6 with Alain Meunier. She gave her first recital at La Sorbonne at the age of 10 and played as a soloist with orchestra in a concert broadcast on Radio- France for the first time at the age of 11. She studied music at the Conservatoire National de Région de Boulogne Billancourt and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris. Remarded at 16 by Aldo Parisot during a Master Class, she was invited to study in her class at Yale in the United States the following year; she stayed there for three years. She continued her flight towards new horizons: one year at Banff Fine Arts Center in Canada, then she left to train with Janos Starker – whom she quickly became assistant – in Bloomington, Indiana.
Back in Europe, she obtained the position of principal cello with the National Ballet Orchestra in Amsterdam in 1991. From 1997 to 2001 she was principal cello with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra and from 2005 she became principal cello of the Mozart Orchestra founded by Claudio Abbado. She has been a member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra since 2005, and has been a member -the first stand position- under Claudio Abbado. She continues to perform with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra under the musical direction of Riccardo Chailly.
She is the guest soloist of orchestras from around the world such as the Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver Symphony Orchestras in Canada, Columbus, Santa Fee and Nashville in the United States, the Mexico Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Symphonique d’Ulan Baator in Mongolia, the Orchestre Symphonique Français, the Orchestre de France-Picardie, the Orchestre de l’Ile de France and the Orchestre Léon Barzin in France, the Orchestre de l’Académie de Bologne and the Mozart Orchestra conducted by Abbado.
She plays the repertoire of great chamber music works with Maria João Pires, György Sebök, Bruno Rigutto, Paul Lewis, Paulo Giacometti, Kolja Blacher, Barnabás Kelemen, Gregory Ash, Malcolm
Lowe, Ivry Gitlis, William Preucil, Hannah Weinmeister, Ilya Gringold, Antje Weithaas, Guy Braunstein, the Artemis Quartet, Karl Leister, Maurice Bourgues, Jacques Zoon, Janos Starker, Natalia Gutman.
She performs on major stages in Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, London, Rome, Madrid, Lisbon, Moscow, Vienna, New York, Boston, Tokyo, Shanghai, Seoul, Santiago, Mexico.
His concert career has taken him to major international festivals such as Kuhmo in Finland, Lofoten and Risor in Norway, Saito Kinen in Japan, Davos and Lucerne, Festival der Zukunft in Switzerland, Tanglewood in the United States, Sarlat, Beauvais and Les Arcs in France, the Proms in London.
Iseut Chuat’s repertoire reflects a wide variety of styles, ranging from baroque works to contemporary repertoire that she likes to introduce. Several works are dedicated to him, notably the Suite for solo cello “Jaguar song” by Paul Desenne, Venezuelan cellist and composer, also “Pas de deux”, Concertino for flute, cello and orchestra as well as the “Inventions” for flute and cello by Bernhard Heiden, one of Paul Hindemith’s great students. She plays the world premiere of Fedele’s Concerto for two cellos.
Many of his concerts have been broadcast on BBC, Rai, Radio-France, Radio-classique radio channels. She has recorded works by Franck, Debussy Poulenc, Chopin, Rachmaninov for the label Saphir Productions, an album for solo cello with Vox Animae, works by Bach with Pony Canyon. She signs a contract to engrave the complete Beethoven sonatas with Delos in 2019.
Iseut Chuat reconciled her concert career with the responsibility of transmission: appointed Professor at Indiana University in the United States in 1994 to take over from Janos Starker’s class, she was not long in becoming a highly regarded professor in the world of the cello. She responds to invitations from many universities in the United States to give Master Classes. When she followed her husband to Boston in 1997, she taught at the New England Conservatory, Boston University and the Longy School of Music in Cambridge MA. Since her return to Europe in 2002, she continues to give Master Classes in many European countries but also in Japan and South America. From 2017, she is invited by the State University of Santiago in Chile to supervise the opening of a new program, that of Master for Concertists, the first and only in South America. In this context, she will go to Santiago every semester to give an intensive cycle of courses and Master Classes to cello students – in close collaboration with teachers – coming from all South American countries.
